Pocket Nappies: Pocket nappies (sometimes called stuffable nappies) are nappies that consist of a stay-dry inner layer and a waterproof outer. Absorbent material is put inside the pocket. Only one layer to put on as you do not need a wrap with these nappies. You will need absorbent inserts to put in the pocket. Many brands include the insert with the nappy.
Popper In / Snap In Nappies: Similar to a Pocket Nappy in that once it is assembled it goes on in one piece. But these nappies have inserts that popper into place. Very versitile and can be as absorbent as they need to be by adding extra boosters. Even though these nappies go on like an All In One, amking nappy changes easier, they have the convenience of being able to re-use the outer "shell" of the nappy and replacing the inserts with new.
All In One Nappies: All-in-One nappies do not need a seperate wrap or any inserts. Everything is sewn together so that you can grab the nappy and not have to find anything else. All-in-Ones have come a long way since the first ones came on the market; the absorbent core folds out to aid drying time making them a very viable option.
Shaped Nappies that require a wrap over the top: Absorbent nappy shaped to fit snuggly around baby before putting on a separate waterproof cover (wrap). These nappies fasten with either poppers, velcro or Nappy Nippa fasteners. Available in cotton, bamboo and microfibre. These nappies are the most leak proof and the most absorbent. Even if you use pocket nappies or all in ones during the day, these 2 part shaped nappies are unbeatable at night.
Flat nappies (also require a wrap): Terry Squares and Prefolds are an economical option and wash and dry easily. With modern fasteners and soft breathable wraps these systems are not old fashioned. With a bit of practice anyone can master the art of folding that our mothers could do with one hand. Many people use terry squares at home and more modern designs while they are out, reducing the overall cost of their nappy stash but still benefiting from the really convenient oprions.
